I’ve been wanting to do something like this for awhile but lacked the inspiration. This morning I watched Another Writing Tag with Jenna Mo and decided to give it a go. I hope you enjoy this, and be sure to check out her channel. She has a ton of awesome videos, great writing advice and tips, and a killer sense of humor.
What do you eat or drink while writing?
As far as food goes, I usually don’t eat, but when I do, it’s jelly beans, Whales, or whatever I can snatch from the fridge in under twenty seconds. The book isn’t going to write itself. I alternate between water and coffee. Of course, I don’t drink anything else but those in general, but that’s besides the point.
What do you listen to while writing?
Mostly remixes and alternative rock/punk from the 90s and early 2000s. But it all depends on the book and scene I’m writing. One minute I could be chillin’ with ‘Viva La Revolution’ or Beth Crowley and BAM! Alice in Chains takes over the show.
What is your biggest distraction while writing?
My dog. She’s the sweetest creature to grace this earth and SHE WON’T STOP BEGGING FOR LOVE WHILE I’M WRITING! … I love her dearly but, come on. Cut me some slack, Farfel.
What is the worst thing that has happened to you while writing?
There’s been a lot of crazy things. My brother reading one of my early attempts of a make out scene to my parents.
He couldn’t find his underwear for three days. A classmate snatching my notebooks in middle school and running away with them. His body was never found. The worst to date was having to chase a box containing 90% of my works down the side of a mountain. (I’ll have to tell you all about that some year.) I saved it ‘just’ before in went in a creek.
What is the best thing that has ever happened to you while writing?
Who do you communicate with while you’re writing?
My two weirdest friends. One of them’s a writer and a ruthless, tyrannical, scheming (I make you out to be such a devil. This is for eighth grade.) editor. My stories would be nowhere and nothing without him. The other I rant story ideas to all the time. I’m surprised that she hasn’t put me on mute by now. I shower you both with thanks.
What is your secret to success and your biggest writing flaw?
Keep writing. That’s the best advice I can give you. I would say that my biggest writing flaw is how I rush my endings in early drafts. I get so excited and hyped up that I forget to slow down, and remind myself that the ending isn’t going anywhere.
What is your inspiration? What makes you productive?
I get inspired by almost anything, but music does it for me. I make myself productive. No one is going to hold my hand and write for me. I wouldn’t want them to.
What is one thing that you do or that other writers do that is super annoying?
Arrogance. The idea that you’re the best writer out there. New flash! There is and will always be writers better than you.
Are you willing to share something you’ve written?
Well, there’s what I have on this blog, and once I polish up and edit a handful of my finished novels, I might post the first couple of chapters on here.
Now, I must be going. I smelleth pizza and hear Lord of the Rings.
